Becoming Jane   «recommended»

One of those predictable movies, because we know (more or less) what happened in Jane Austen's life. Aside from that, or maybe because of it, this film sucks you. I'll make it no secret that I love James McAvoy (see Rory O'Shea Was Here if you haven't yet), and he was unsurprisingly fantastic as Tom. The only part I really didn't like was the end, because I found it quite velveeta-esque. Tom and Jane meet when they are "more mature" at a concert. Tom introduces his daughter (whom he named Jane, both in the movie and in real life) to Jane and Jane takes her to sit next to her while she does an uncharacteristic reading.

Summary: "Becoming Jane," is the story of the great, untold romance that inspired a young Jane Austen, played by Anne Hathaway. Willful and spirited, Jane is not ready to be tied down to anything but her writing. That is until she meet Tom Lefroy (James McAvoy) a charming rogue from London who spends more time drinking and socializing than on his law studies. The film also stars Maggie Smith, Julie Walters and James Cromwell and is directed by Julian Jarrold. (from the official movie page)
Quotes: "Love and sense are enemies at any age."
"Sometimes affection is a shy flower that takes time to blossom."
"Nothing destroys spirit like poverty."
